Requirements for becoming a uTester

As outlined in our Terms of Use, anyone over the age of 18 may become a tester in our community. Previous software testing experience is not required, although most in our community are indeed software QA professionals. As a tester, your performance on projects is closely monitored (through bug approval percentages); the best testers are paid at a higher rate and also offered the majority of projects, including private test cycles.

Testers from all over the world perform freelance software testing with uTest. However, we do have requests at times about eligibility to work on uTest projects under certain circumstances. For example, a tester may already have a full time job and want to test on evenings and weekends, it will be the tester’s responsibility to make sure they are not in breach of any agreements with their employer. Or perhaps you are currently living in the United States but do not have a visa yet. In all circumstances, we recommend that you seek advice from a lawyer who is familiar with your situation.
